History

In 1980, a group of citizens committed to improving our city's neighborhoods and communities created Anchorage Neighborhood Housing Services which is now called NeighborWorks® Anchorage.  NeighborWorks® Anchorage's first efforts were to help the Spenard community reverse neighborhood decline by increasing safe, affordable housing, by improving access to attractive places to work, shop, and do business, and by making roadways safer and more welcoming. Since then, NeighborWorks® Anchorage’s efforts have expanded to several neighborhoods throughout Anchorage. We believe that each Alaskan deserves affordable and accessible housing. Our staff is here to help individuals, families, and communities develop and carry out their vision of quality living in the Last Frontier.
