Health Programs

Working closely with our community partners, staff at NeighborWorks® Anchorage offer health programs to our residents and provide information and education for living healthy in our community.  Our continued partnership with the YWCA Encore Plus, Women's Cancer Screening program includes free breast exams and cancer screening, education, transportation and follow-up appointments.  Working with the University of Alaska Anchorage School of Nursing we hosted a health fair where residents received vision, dental, and HIV testing, and were provided mental health and basic health screenings.  Participants were also given information on smoking cessation, HIV, healthy lifestyles, and referral services.

  • Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center presents a workshop "Living with Chronic Health Issues."
  • The Alaska AIDS Assistance Association (4A's) presents education programs to provide educational programs, updated materials and information for our residents.
  • Grief counseling was provided to residents during the year as needed by the Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center grief counselor.
  • We have partnered with community and spiritual counselors in a new program called The Listening Post. The counselors provide outreach at The Adelaide twice each month, giving residents an opportunity to "just talk" to someone. This model program has been very successful for residents who prefer to talk in a private setting.
  • The Loussac-Sogn residents were given free yoga classes each Wednesday afternoon. Residents reported lower blood pressure and general sense of well being after the classes.
