Paint the Town
Help paint a brighter future for people in your community!
As part of a nationwide initiative, NeighborWorks® Anchorage participated in NeighborWorks® Week from June 7 – June 15. All across the United States, this week has been set aside for community housing organizations to collaborate with community groups, sponsors, and volunteers to perform neighborhood enhancement projects. NeighborWorks® Anchorage was one of 250 community agencies participating in this great event.
Paint the Town is designed to be a community based program to paint homes for single parents, veterans, seniors, people with disabilities, and other homeowners with a limited capacity. The 2014 Paint the Town marked our ninth consecutive year of coordinating this project. This year we decided to do something different and target the majority of our efforts in one neighborhood, with the intention of having a larger neighborhood impact. With the help of sponsors and volunteers, we were successfully able to paint six homes in the Russian Jack neighborhood, one in Palmer, and our housing project for homeless veterans – Patriot Square. In addition to painting the homes in Russian Jack, NeighborWorks® Anchorage organized a park beautification effort in the same neighborhood in the same week. Over 70 people – staff, board members, volunteers – came to Dave Rose Park and spent an afternoon picking up litter, removing graffiti, and landscaping.
Every year we need your help to make this program a success. This is the perfect opportunity for businesses, civic groups, and community members to help others in our community by sponsoring a home and/or volunteering. Let us know if you are interested in helping Paint the Town in 2015!
